Howard Kroeger
“I never told him…”
“I hope he knows that…”
“The last thing he heard from me was…”
Hello everyone,
As you may already know, Howard had a medical situation and gave us all a scare earlier this year. He’s nearly fully recovered and is now staying with family here in the Phoenix area. Having just turned 90, though, Howard’s recent event brought with it the fear that it could be the end. Death and dying is never a fun topic. I work in the Life Insurance industry and, as such, am a bit desensitized to it. That said, when it’s family it brings strong emotions with it. All too often, people’s immediate thoughts when hearing of the death of a loved one go to fond memories and their last interactions with the deceased. Funerals and wakes are times of mixed emotions as tears and laughter are both present while family and friends share stories and anecdotes about the departed. It’s a shame that the one person who would love to hear those words most – the ones who have passed – are not able to enjoy all the heartfelt sentiments from those with whom they shared their lives.
Howard’s recovery has given us all a chance to be sure that he knows how loved and cherished and important he is to all of us. Though we all hope that Howard has many healthy years left ahead of him, I would love to give him the opportunity to hear from everyone who’s life he has touched.
This year, we’ll host Thanksgiving at our house as we do every year. My father-in-law is a skilled video editor and it has become a tradition of sorts to watch a collection of photos and home videos of gatherings with family and friends from the previous year at Thanksgiving dinner. This year, I’d like to show a video that collects messages from all of you to Howard. I think he would really enjoy hearing from as many of you as possible. If you don’t have the tech savvy necessary to record a video of yourself and upload it, find a cell phone and a millennial – they’ll certainly know how to do it! Emails are great too, but the sight of your face and the sound of your voice will have a much stronger impact. If you absolutely can’t record and upload a video, call me on my direct office line and leave your message to Howard on my voicemail: 602-732-3516. If you have pictures or mementos that remind you of Howard, please send those along as well.
I hope you’ll all agree that Howard is an amazing person and holds a special place in all of our lives. I don’t have the contact information for nearly enough of Howard’s friends and family, so PLEASE forward this message to anyone and everyone you can that knows Howard. I would love for this video to be hours and hours and hours long because so many people had so many wonderful things to say about him.
If you have any questions, please let me know. You can reply to this email, or call me. I hope to make this year’s Thanksgiving one that’s truly special for Howard.
